In Kamchatka, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations sent orcas that were in shallow water to a deeper place, the department’s press service reports on the Telegram channel.
“The water is now deep enough for the animals to swim safely,” – said the Ministry of Emergency Situations. They clarified that experts continue to monitor the movements of the orcas.
On October 2, in the estuary near the village of Ustyevoye in the Kamchatka Territory, local residents discovered four stranded killer whales: two adults and two calves.
Throughout the day, rescuers and volunteers attempted to manually move the animals to deeper water so they could swim out to sea during high tide.
In the afternoon of the same day it was learned that the killer whales began to move independently along the estuary during high tide and on the morning of October 3 they swam from shallow waters into the open sea. However, they later found themselves in shallow water again and rescuers began helping them again. Now they are safe, clarifies RBC.
