The leadership of the Sumar Plurinational Parliamentary Group has chosen the former Director General of Labor and MP for Pontevedra, Verónica Martínez Barbero, as the new parliamentary spokesperson to replace Íñigo Errejón, after the latter’s resignation on October 25.
As the formation explains, the decision was taken “unanimously by all the forces that make up the group, as part of a process that involves the restructuring of responsibilities within it, after the latest changes in its composition “. In this sense, it was agreed “on the constitution, with a working method and a timetable, of a coordination space in which all forces participate on an equal footing”.
Sumar, who explains that Martínez will take office from November 14, emphasizes that the election demonstrates a “consensus” that “strengthens the work within the parliamentary group and the dialogue between political forces.” In a press release, the formation also emphasizes that the new spokesperson “has a career linked to the defense of workers’ rights, both in the professional and political fields.”
“Born in Gijón, but Galician by adoption, Martínez Barbero has been a labor and social security inspector in the province of Pontevedra since 2006. Before occupying her seat in this same province, she was general director of labor within of the ministry led by Yolanda. Díaz, and he was one of the architects of such remarkable measures as the ERTE during the pandemic and labor reform,” Sumar highlights.
