Supply of weapons to Israel – Spain appealed to the international community

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, called on the international community to stop supplying weapons to Israel.

This was reported by The Times Of Israel.

The call came after the Spanish leader condemned the bombing of UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) posts by the Israel Defense Forces. Sánchez expressed concern that two peacekeepers were injured by the Israeli bombing of an observation post in southern Lebanon.

The IDF, in turn, said it was investigating these incidents. The injuries suffered by the peacekeepers became known after a similar incident the previous day, in which two UN employees were also injured.

Spain, which has sent 650 peacekeepers to Lebanon, actively participates in supporting UNIFIL. Sánchez highlighted that the head of the UN mission in the region is a Spanish general, which makes the situation especially significant for the country.

After meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican, Sánchez said he condemned the IDF’s actions against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. The President of the Government also recalled that Spain stopped exporting weapons to Israel back in October 2023 in the midst of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, and called on other countries to follow this example to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.

According to him, the international community must take responsibility and stop supplying weapons to Israel in the current situation.

Earlier, Kursor reported that Scholz said Germany had already made decisions that would guarantee additional arms supplies to Israel.
