Supreme Court imposes permanent prison sentences on the murderers of Marta Calvo, Arliene Ramos and Lady Marcela Vargas

The Supreme Court has imposed a permanent prison sentence and an additional 137 years in prison on the man who murdered three women in Valencia, Marta Calvo, Arliene Ramos and Lady Marcela Vargas, and tried to do the same to six other women, causing a cocaine overdose to his victims. The judges understand that he is a “serial killer” and must be given the maximum sentence for the crime of Marta Calvo, whose body has not yet been found, and also raises to 140,000 euros the compensation he must pay to her parents. . The judges state that it is firmly proven that the murderer, Jorge Ignacio Palma, already had several criminal records when he began murdering prostitutes in Valencia. Convictions for driving faster than permitted and for drug trafficking in Paterna, Navarre and Italy, which would have resulted in his expulsion from the country if executed.

According to the judgment, between 2018 and 2019, the criminal made several appointments with vulnerable women who were prostitutes and specified that he wanted it to be a “white party” and that they would consume cocaine with him as a condition. According to the judges, he took advantage of the fact that they were women in an extremely precarious economic situation, many of them receiving money to support their families, as reflected in the investigation. Sometimes, he forced his victims to consume the drug in their drink or to insert it through the vagina and anus without their permission.

Marta Calvo’s body has not yet been found

Several women survived and did not suffer acute poisoning because they realized and managed to eliminate the drug from their bodies before it was too late. But three died and the body of one of them, Marta Calvo, was never found. After her death, the murderer bought gloves, garbage bags and saws in Ollería and, according to what he told the Civil Guard, he dumped the young woman’s remains in different nearby towns. The Civil Guard searched “without rest” for her remains, without the victim’s relatives being able to avoid the “additional suffering” that caused them that the murderer did not reveal his true location.

Initially, the courts of the Valencian Community imposed on the criminal almost 160 years in prison for all the crimes committed and attempted, but now the Supreme Court understands that the repetition of his murders should increase the sentence for one of the crimes to permanent prison reviewable. He is a “serial killer”, says the Supreme Court, and the law allows this maximum sentence.

The judges also increase to 140,000 euros the compensation that must be paid to Marta Calvo’s parents for the suffering caused by not having found her body and having been subjected to the killer’s refusal to reveal her whereabouts. From the beginning, among all his victims, he must pay more than 600,000 euros.
