Susana Camarero advocates humanitarian work on International Cooperators’ Day

The vice president and councilor of Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camarero, valued the humanitarian work carried out by aid workers during the event celebrating the International Day of Cooperatorswhich took place for the first time in the Valencian Community.

There, in front of a large group of representatives of NGOs, public universities, local and regional public administrations, Susana Camarero recalled “the the importance of solidarity and the global commitment” which represents the work of the cooperator in these difficult times.

The vice president assured that cooperation is “one of the most valuable tools” we have as a society. “In the face of pain, catastrophe and disaster, you choose to stay and work to improve the living conditions and access to human rights of those who live the worst,” Camarero stressed in reference to the group of cooperators.

This is why, from the Council – he stressed – “we reiterate our commitment to continue to support and strengthen cooperation” in all areas, since “we want to be recognized as a united society committed to the fight against inequalities” throughout the world.

The celebration of Cooperator Day is a clear example of this commitment to thank and value the work of those who collaborate with development aid. A celebration that will continue throughout the month of September with the organization of different activities to commemorate, also for the first time, the Month of the Cooperator.

Susana Camarero continued by explaining that the Generalitat’s commitment to cooperation is clearly reflected in the budget, “the highest at national level and one of the most ambitious at European level.”

Foreign aid actions

Likewise, he stressed “the strategy and cConstruction of public policies for external action” developed by the Generalitat. In this sense, it highlighted the new ways of working with new actors, the coordination work with other administrations or the participatory processes where education for development is reflected.

As reflected in the report on impact data of last year’s Valencian cooperation, presented at the event, the Valencian Community operates in 31 countries and has directly benefited 2,310,687 people.

The event also included the presentation of the new brand Valencian Cooperationa distinction that many autonomous communities already had and that is now a reality to claim and strengthen Valencian solidarity.

Finally, Camarero thanked all the collaborators for “their tireless work and unwavering commitment” as “the great bearers of hope that they are”. A fact that makes the Valencian Community “proud to have you as ambassadors in the fight for a better world”.
