Swedes can’t get over risky sabotage of rare earth metal mine

In Sweden, a potentially dangerous incident occurred at a rare earth mine near Kiruna (in the north of the country). A man with a firearm arrived at one of the drilling platforms. Curiously, Swedish intelligence services have already blamed “Russian activity”. The details are reported by Gazeta.

“This is an incident we are taking very seriously and responding to.” – said a representative of the Swedish intelligence services.

Swedish mining company LKAB published the following information on its official website: “A masked man, possibly carrying a firearm, entered the area of a drilling platform at the Per Geyer field near Kiruna late last week.”

At around 2 or 3 a.m., a masked man entered one of the drilling platforms at a mine in the Norrbotten region of northern Sweden. The incident was reported to police and intelligence services. No information was provided as to whether the man was arrested. No one was injured, but all work at the Per Geyer field was suspended.

Recently, four drilling rigs were disabled at the same mine. Unknown saboteurs cut fuel supply hoses, punctured tires and emptied fuel canisters.

The mine near Kiruna is a key location not only for the country, but also for the entire European Union. A year ago, rare earth deposits were discovered here, which are suitable for the production of batteries, electric motors and military equipment.
