Switzerland seeks to revive the shelter, many of which have remained unused in the 1990s.
On the occasion of improving security problems after the general war of Russia in Ukraine, the Swiss army is reviewing the role of about 8,000 shelters scattered throughout the country, some of which are dated to 1886, and the best way to modernize them.
Initially, they were built for strategic positions, such as the Gottard and Alps railway, the shelter system became an important component of the Swiss National Fort, a network of fortifications intended for dismissal during the Second World War and the Cold War.
While many shelters were once equipped with advanced protective systems to protect against Soviet missile threats, their use was reduced after the Cold War. Reducing the budget and changing defense priorities led to the fact that many places for citizens.
Buyers found an amazing new use for them, from cheese cellars and art galleries to nodes and hotels. Some were even transformed into treasures with a high level of safety for cryptocurrencies, such as the Swiss Fort Fort Knox in Canton Verne.
However, in 2023, the Swiss army stopped all sales of these shelters, deciding instead to evaluate their best reuse. “We must take advantage of what we have,” said the leader of the Swiss army Thomas Susssi.
“The nature of the military threats has changed. The shelters are poorly located, and the weapons that they contain will withstand only ten or twenty years, ”he added.
For the army, the goal is to turn these shelters into “difficult protective centers” using the technology of cutting environmental technologies, ensuring the provision of expensive updates and requires minimal personnel.
In addition to increasing national defense, some cantons also adapted political shelters for temporary placement for refugees.
According to local media, the Swiss technologies and the armed forces plan to organize the “Day of Innovation” in mid -September, where more details will be identified, and participants will be able to present their ideas. “We are looking for ideas from all areas, not just protection,” Sts emphasized.
