It’s the end. After what we know about the food he ate on the day of DANA, Carlos Mazón cannot continue to deal with the worst tragedy in recent Spanish history. The president of the Valencian Generalitat had already demonstrated his administrative incapacity to coordinate the response to the disaster, which has so far caused 215 deaths and devastation of apocalyptic dimensions. Today, his moral incapacity has become evident. Thanks to the work of journalists who he does not have under his wing, we learned that the mysterious meal which occupied him until 5:30 p.m. Valencian places – was with a journalist, Maribel Vilaplana, to whom he offered, between meats and wines, the management of the public television channel À Punt.
The flood was advancing. From Aemet, the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar, 112 people and different town halls alerted the Generalitat that the situation was getting out of control. But the president was in a restaurant preparing for a position that, by law, must be awarded competitively on merit. Apparently the presenter declined the offer. After this lengthy meeting, Mazón apparently stopped by his office and only around 7:30 p.m. did he join the emergency meeting of the Emergency Coordination Committee that had started two and a half hours earlier. According to some sources, he should have been informed about what had been discussed so far. And what was happening was terrifying. An hour earlier, the Poyo ravine had overflowed, flooding the municipalities of Torrent, Picanya, Paiporta, Sedaví, Benetússer, Massanassa and Catarroja, localities where the greatest number of victims occurred. The waters and mud advanced furiously. The number of deaths has multiplied. At 8:12 p.m., when people were already up to their necks in water, the Generalitat sent the massive alert by SMS to the population of the province of Valencia asking them not to leave their homes and to avoid to travel.
