Staff of the United Nations and other international organisations in Afghanistan can count on their safety, according to the head of the Interior Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, the country’s proper name for the Taliban).*) Sirajuddin Haqqani at a meeting with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Security Gilles Michaud.
Michaud himself noted that “the relationship between the United Nations and the Islamic Emirate has been strengthened” and that the safety of the organization’s employees in Afghanistan has been guaranteed.
During this meeting, Haqqani promised the UN Deputy Secretary-General that all international organizations can carry out their activities in Afghanistan with full confidence.
