Targeting time reduced to 1 minute – EADaily, August 31, 2024 – Technology, US News

The US Army Futures Command (AFC) has developed new artificial intelligence software, Shrike, to reduce the time it takes to identify a target and attack, according to Interesting Engineering magazine.

It is worth noting that the software has reduced the response time to threats from 15 minutes to 1 minute.

“This new Army electronic warfare software was demonstrated for the first time during the 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division’s rotation this month.” – the article says.

The new Shrike software is said to be able to recognize targets from limited information.

Major General Silvia BrettCommander of the 101st Airborne Division, said the Shrike can detect hidden and camouflaged vehicles and determine their type by a visible wheel, bumper or windshield. The system automatically sets the task to call for fire, which the user must approve or reject.

According to Sylvia, once a strike is carried out, the drone can immediately scan the area, perform a damage assessment and carry out another fire mission to destroy the target.

“The standard time for the Army to identify and fire rounds at a target in a traditional fire mission is five to eight minutes… some can take up to 15 minutes. However, using this software, soldiers… were able to do this in less than a minute.” – magazine notes.

It should be noted that the software can be integrated into any deployed drone.
