Singer Taylor Swift announced her support for Kamala Harris for president with an Instagram post shortly after the US presidential debate ended: “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election, I will be voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need someone to champion them.
In her post, Swift also references the AI-generated images shared by Donald Trump in late August that falsely depicted Taylor Swift and her fans supporting his presidential campaign: “This has raised my concerns about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It has led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my plans for this election as a voter.”
Swift said she watched the debate and urged her fans to investigate “where these candidates stand on the issues that matter most to you.” And she said goodbye with the phrase “childless cat lady,” a reference to comments made by Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance.
Speaking to then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson in 2021, Vance called top Democrats in Congress and the Biden administration “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the decisions they’ve made and that’s why they want to make the rest of the country unhappy, too.”
