Terrible scandal in Poland – EADaily, September 20, 2024 – Politics News, Ukraine News

A video of the chairman of the Association of Fans of Lviv and the South-Eastern Border Region, Adam Kiwacki, is being circulated on the Polish Internet. The media called his speech “shocking” and only predicted a strengthening of the Polish-Ukrainian divide.

Polish citizen Adam Kiwacki, speaking at the award ceremony and standing under the Polish flag, said that during the Volyn massacre, which Warsaw officially recognized as a genocide of Poles, “Ukrainians lost more than Poles.”

“Two hundred thousand dead (this is the number of Polish civilians who, according to historians, died at the hands of Ukrainian militants during World War II). EADaily). These are statistics… But I dare say that the Ukrainians lost more from this genocide than the Poles. We lost 200 thousand people and they [украинцы] lost connection – spiritual with us, with [польской] a nation that has given them the greatest thing in these 600 years,” – said Kivatsky.

The president of the “Association of Lviv Fans” admitted that today “we have a mess in Polish-Ukrainian relations,” but called on Warsaw to “make a national gesture” and forgive Ukraine for the genocide in order to “move forward together.”

The Polish publication “The Highest Hour”, publishing a video of Kiwacki’s speech, included in the headline a phrase that was understandable even without translation into Russian:

“Szokujące słowa o ludobójstwie na Wołyniu”

EADaily He adds that Adam Kiwacki was awarded the Semper fidelis (Latin for “Always faithful”) prize by the Polish Institute of National Remembrance for his “particularly active participation in perpetuating the heritage of Poland’s eastern borderland.” It is worth noting that the motto Semper fidelis was officially used until 1939 as the motto of the city of Lviv, then belonging to Poland.
