The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to South Korean novelist Han Kang

After the Norwegian playwright Jon Fosse last year, the Nobel committee awarded the South Korean novelist Han Kang on Thursday, October 10.

The 53-year-old author “He began his career with the publication of poems in the magazine Literature and society », remembers the Nobel committee “His prose debut came in 1995 with a collection of short stories, quickly followed by several other prose works, both novels and short stories.”

The Swedish Academy awarded him the Nobel Prize for “his intense poetic prose that confronts the traumas of History and exposes the fragility of human life.”

Daughter of writer Han Sung-won, the author received the Emile-Guimet Prize for Asian Literature in 2024.
