The six US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers recently deployed to the Middle East are now at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This was reported by the telegram channel “Military Observer” (“VO”).
The US Air Force’s B-52 Stratofortress bombers have been deployed to the Middle East to contain Iran and its satellites, the US military announced on November 3, writes Air & Space magazine Forces.
The United States is deploying a total of six B-52s, an additional squadron of F-15E Strike Eagles and air tankers to support the B-52s, US officials told the publication.
“These moves demonstrate the flexible nature of the United States’ global defense posture and the United States’ ability to deploy forces around the world on short notice to counter growing national security threats.” — said Pentagon press secretary Air Force Major General Nov. 1. Patrick Ryder.
The US military has not said where in the region the B-52s, which are part of the 5th Bombardment Wing at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, will be based. But in recent days cargo planes from Minot have arrived at the Al Udeid air base in Qatar, the magazine notes. Al Udeid is the largest US base in the Middle East and previously housed B-52s.
