The Archives pays tribute to professor and academic Máximo Martín Aguado with a virtual exhibition

This Wednesday, November 13, the 20 years since the death of professor and academic Máximo Martín Aguadoclosely linked to the city of Toledo and especially to the “El Greco” Institute of which he was director between 1977 and 1984. Coinciding with this anniversary, the Municipal Archives of Toledo published a virtual exhibition with his activity and biographyproduced with the help of the family of this beloved professor, author of many publications on the prehistory of Toledo, its flora and fauna. “This is the most beautiful tribute we can pay to a person who dedicated his life to teaching and research,” says archivist Mariano García Ruipérez.

In the report published on ABC on November 14, 2004, the death of Máximo Martín Aguado had been announced the day before, at the age of 88. Not even a year had passed since the death of his wife, also professor María Montequi.

Martín Aguado, originally from Yunclillos, worked as a teacher in Palencia, Tenerife and Toledo, and in 1959 joined the Toledo Institute, which in 1978 was renamed “El Greco”. For twenty-six years he was a professor of natural sciences. As explained on the Archives website, in Toledo, he carried out extensive educational work, supplemented by carrying out numerous research on the prehistory of Toledo, its fauna and flora, distributed in the form of monographs or articles in different journals, notably in. Toletum. Bulletin of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Historical Sciences. His contributions to the prehistoric site of Pinedo were very significant and had a broad impact on the scientific world.

Significant contributions have been written on his life and work. The biography produced by José María Calvo Cirujano in the tribute book published by this Institute in 1986 is very relevant; and the text, written by Pedro Rodríguez Vallejo and Elvira San Román, included in the work Biographies and Profiles of Professors.
