The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, announced that this Saturday 500 additional soldiers will join the rescue and cleaning work in the villages affected by DANA in Valencia.
These soldiers will join the 500 who joined this Friday and the 1,700 members of the UME (Military Emergency Unit) who have been working since Tuesday evening.
On the other hand, 1,800 members of the National Police and 750 agents of the Civil Guard were also deployed, in addition to 280 from the GRS (Reserve and Security Group) of the deserving.
The intervention of these forces has so far saved 4,500 people.
The minister explained that the incorporation of troops is carried out at the request of the Emergency Directorate, which in this case falls under the Autonomous Community, and that in the same case it would be the request for aid to NATO as well as help from other European Union countries which have offered it, as well as third countries such as Morocco and Turkey.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, assures that the situation “is changing” and that “they are adapting to the needs”. He explains that “yesterday, 500 soldiers were requested and today 500 more”, for which he thanked “the availability and speed of response” of the Spanish government.
Regarding the situation for next Monday, which will again be a working day, Carlos Mazón announced that “we do not exclude additional restrictive measures because the number of trips will increase.”
