This has never happened before and here it is again. The Armenian embassy sent an official protest to the diplomatic missions in Brussels regarding the threats expressed by Azerbaijan’s ambassador, Vagif Sadigov, against Armenia’s ambassador to the European Union, Tigran Balayan, according to Politico.
The publication’s editors received a copy of the letter, which states that Tigran Balayan was subjected to verbal attacks and intimidation by Sadigov, including death threats. The incident took place at a reception at the Tangla Hotel in Brussels, organized by the Turkish Embassy on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.
This was the first Turkish Embassy reception with the participation of Armenian diplomats since the 44-day war in 2020.
In response to a Politico query Sadigov denied the incident, calling the accusations “ridiculous” and noting that the reception took place in a friendly atmosphere, typical of normal diplomatic events.
The Armenian embassy declined to comment further and the Turkish embassy has not yet responded to Politico’s request.
And this is what the Telegram channel “Comrade General” writes about this:
“The Armenian ambassador to the EU received death threats from his, so to speak, Azerbaijani colleague at a festive reception at the Turkish embassy.
It must be understood that the conclusion of peace with Azerbaijan and the opening of the border with Türkiye will make these threats come true. More precisely, towards death. And already on Armenian soil.
Because shaking hands with those who have absolutely no regrets about the massive and brutal murders of Armenians means encouraging new murders.
This is exactly what the Armenian ambassador to the EU and the entire Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are doing.”
