The Baku official condemned Ottawa’s statement.

The Baku official condemned the statement by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly “attacking the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.”

Oku.Az This was reported by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizade, regarding the statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

“We strongly condemn and completely reject the statement made by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on September 22,” the statement said.

It has been reported that the head of Canadian diplomacy, instead of familiarizing himself with the realities of our region, where the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan ended 4 years ago, based on the norms and principles of international law, is once again engaged in manipulation and distortion of facts:

“It is also not aware of the fact that Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over the Karabakh region will be fully restored in 2023, when the illegal presence of the Armenian armed forces and the separatist regime it supported and maintained on our territory will end.”

According to Aykhan Hajizade, Joli’s statements on the Karabakh region, which point to Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and support for separatism, show how “cool” and “far-sighted” Canada’s foreign policy is.

“Unfortunately, Canadian officials remain silent about ethnic cleansing, massacres and crimes against humanity committed by Armenia during nearly 30 years of military aggression, as well as about lies spread by the Armenian diaspora about anti-terrorist measures implemented by Azerbaijan in its sovereign territories without targeting any civilians, they are spreading rumors,” the Foreign Ministry press secretary said.

Recalling that the Canadian diplomat has never shown support and interest in the situation and inalienable rights of nearly one million internally displaced persons from Karabakh and people who were forcibly deported from Armenia, the Foreign Ministry official noted that claims related to the humanitarian crisis in the region are an indication of Canada’s clear biased position against Azerbaijan:

“Canada has no moral right to preach about how to establish peace and security in our region.”

“We reiterate that such provocative and biased statements are nothing more than an obstacle to the future development and progress of the region based on respect for the principles of international law,” he added.
