The bishop delegate of the Episcopal Conference of Tarragona to the General Assembly of Caritas Catalonia and auxiliary bishop of Barcelona, Javier Vilanova, announced this Thursday the name of the new president of the religious entity of a social nature: Salvador Busquets, who was president of the Caritas Diocesana of Barcelona between 2014 and 2023. The Assembly, chaired by Vilanova and Francesc Conesa, bishop of Solsona (Lérida), took place at the Diocesan Seminary of Solsona, as reported by Tarraconense.
Vilanova informed the representatives of the management teams of the ten Catalan diocesan Caritas, after the obligatory electoral process, that Busquets would be, since January 1 the new president of Caritas Catalonia. The prelate explained that after the Extraordinary General Assembly of Caritas Catalonia on September 12, three names were presented to the plenary of the Episcopal Conference of Tarragona which, after analyzing the finalists, unanimously decided on the name de Busquets to then chair Caritas Catalonia. four years.
Busquets was born in 1958 and is Graduate in economic and commercial sciences, training which he completed with several postgraduate diplomas, notably in Taxation and Marketing. He is married and the father of children. He developed his professional career in private companies until 1995, when he joined the Arrels Fundació organization as general coordinator and then as director of this entity, offering his services for seventeen years.
Subsequently he was appointed coordinator of the social entities of the Society of Jesus in Catalonia and, in 2014, he was appointed director of Diocesan Caritas of Barcelona, responsibility that he assumed until 2023. He has been a member of different platforms related to poverty and social exclusion, such as the Advisory Council for Social and Family Policy of the Generalitat of Catalonia (CAPSIF), Poverty of ECAS (Catalan Social Action Entities).
