The blackmailer, the murderer’s recordings and the surrogacy trial.

He didn’t get it right. He wasn’t killed. Magali Blandín isn’t buried. He didn’t do it. ” that “. That the murderer was recorded saying: “I love my wife, I don’t want to kill her, I have no other choice.” Blackmailing him to extort a few thousand euros. Knowing, but not saying anything. Or not preventing anything.

In front of the Rennes criminal court on Tuesday 24 September, the lawyers for the civil party, the defence and the public prosecutor agreed on one point: above all, it was not a question of conducting a trial here that cannot take place. The only murderer, Magali Blandin’s ex-husband, Jérôme Gaillard, hanged himself in custody after confessing to having murdered her. Her parents, prosecuted for complicity, also committed suicide.

Only three Georgians were involved in the case, fired for “attempted extortion,” “fraud,” “destruction of evidence” and “failure to prevent a crime.” “The temptation is great to make Mr. [Giorgi] Zeragia is an ideal culprit because it is difficult to accept what this case has become: a consolation prize.” Antoine Ory defended the defense.

“You didn’t say anything”

Severiani Topuria was the first to take the stand, without a lawyer. Who knows if he really understands what he is accused of, with his emaciated appearance and his body ruined by what the personality study modestly calls a “polydrug addiction”. This man, almost 50 years old, semi-homeless and a repeat offender, participated in the drafting and delivery of letters threatening Jérôme Gaillard with revealing recordings incriminating him if he did not pay 15,000 euros. The president becomes a teacher: “He is accused of trying to get money from her so as not to say that he had killed his wife.” You will only get one answer, repeated over and over: “It was to recover the debt, ma’am, that’s all.”

The money that Jérôme Gaillard owed to his cousin and co-accused, in this case: Giorgi Zeragia, a tall guy with big glasses who doesn’t seem to shake at all, himself a former professional footballer whose career was cut short by an injury. He recorded Jérôme Gaillard in November 2020 talking about the future murder of his wife and blackmailed him three months later, when Magali Blandin’s face appeared in all the newspapers along with two words: “Disturbing disappearance.” He is the only one of the three who appears for “intentional failure to prevent a crime.”

“I couldn’t stop him from killing his wife”Giorgi Zeragia says in front. Why did you record it three months before the crime? Why not notify the police instead of keeping the recordings and using them to extract money from them? Magali Blandín’s sister speaks: “You had three months to notify Magali, us or the police. (…) You also had five weeks after what happened to let us know. We searched for her for five weeks, Magali, and you didn’t say anything. »
