Emmanuel Macron’s intuition that the time to stop the far right was on the night of the European Parliament elections was correct. Consolidating the image that the rise of the far right was unstoppable is the last thing that could be accepted. The counterattack had to be immediate.
The call for general elections was therefore a good decision. In three weeks, the exercise of the right to vote, with a turnout much higher than that of the European elections, would show that the rise of the extreme right was perfectly resistible. The republican front resulting from the alliance in the second round of the New Popular Front and the presidential party showed that the extreme right is not in the majority.
