The Spanish Government has indicated that the construction of the Foreign Internment Center (CIE) in Algeciras, in the province of Cádiz, it will be 21.88 million euros, taxes not included, a budget that includes equipment, prices, the Tax on Constructions, Installations and Works (ICIO) and the infrastructure necessary for general connections of supply and that increases by almost three million compared to initial forecasts. The new facilities will have a capacity of 500 inmates. The budget given in 2021 was around 19 million euros
In a written response to a question from Vox recorded in Congress regarding this CIE, the government clarified that A final total cost cannot “yet” be providedsince “the final regulations of the contract corresponding to the Draft Regulations for its execution and the Exceptional Price Revision remain to be adjusted, in accordance with the legislation in force”.
On the other hand, with regard to infrastructure maintenance, he specified that as of October 1, the new specifications of the interview buildings and installations of the General Directorate of Police, which includes LOT25C1: CIE Algeciras and Tarifa, currently in operation, with an estimated value of expenditure for the five-year duration of the contract 1,045,936.35 euros.
The Vox group in Congress also questioned the cost for the State of maintaining CIEs during the year 2023. In this regard, the government responded that it exceeds the three million articles related to food and healthcare people who use these centers.
However, this amount does not represent the total, since no economic data was offered on the cost of translators, cleaning and maintenance infrastructure.
