Fernando Alonso became self-critical again with the performance of Aston Martin this weekend at Italian Grand Prix of Formula 1. “Much better than we expected. Positions 15 and 16 were the positions we expected for today’s time trial. Alonso will start eleventh and will have at least a first hope of scoring some points.
“We will bake the tyres tomorrow with these temperatures. We have all been cautious in case we do two stops. It is not an advantage and we will try to have a good race. Poor qualifying and the car has been disappointing all weekend. The level has been below the minimum necessary. Another warning signal that we have to take seriously,” he added.
“After Free Practice we always do a ranking of our feelings by sector. We expected to be the eighth team in the standings. It can’t be that finishing eleventh leaves a good taste in the mouth. We have to change this routine that we have entered into,” concluded Alonso.
For his part, Carlos Sainzwho finished one place behind his teammate, Charles Leclercwill start from the third row, where he will be accompanied by the seven-time English world champion Lewis Hamiltonwho finished the ranking in sixth position.
