The Castilla-La Mancha Science Museum has received 1.5 million visits in its 25 years of existence

He First Vice President of the Regional Government, José Luis Martínez Guijarroestimated that almost 1.5 million visitors have visited the Castilla-La Mancha Science Museum during its 25 years of existence.

Information he gave during the inauguration of the exhibition commemorating the quarter century of life of a museum that, as he pointed out, “reveals the museum’s capacity for interrelation as an institution”, its relationship with the educational world “and also as a tourist attraction.

In this sense, the first vice-president announced that the project of renovation of the facilities of the Castile-La Mancha Science Museum in which the regional executive will invest half a million euros for the reform of air conditioning.

The objective is to maintain and improve the museum, emblem of the city and regional reference as proof of the commitment of the Government of Castile-La Mancha with one of the symbols of autonomy and with one of the most recognized cultural and tourist attractions of the city of Cuenca.

On the other hand, and within the framework of the events marking this anniversary, Martínez Guijarro announced that in addition to the commemorative exhibition, the celebration of this 25th anniversary will culminate with the recognition of the people who have carried out their work in the museum throughout these years.

Next to Director of the Science Museum, Javier Semprún; the delegate of the Council in the province, María Ángeles López; the president of the Provincial Council, Álvaro Martínez Chana; and the previous directors of this institution, Santiago Langreo and Jesús Madero, the first vice-president, toured the 500 square meters of exhibition where the objective is to propose a reflection on everything that encompasses the concept of scientific dissemination and to highlight, in turn, the educational mission of the museum.

The exhibition is divided into seven spaces that guide the visitor through the different objects throughout the history of this museum, from the foundation process, which are supported by models of the building, architectural elements of the old convent and the asylum house, and makes a brief review with posters of different exhibitions, activities and conferences throughout these 25 years.

To recall the role of technology as an inseparable element of scientific progress, the exhibition traces the evolution of the recording and broadcasting of sound, from the gramophone to the CD, with a documentary recovered from the exhibition which marked the world of radio before. and then in the museum exhibitions.

Already in the 25th anniversary room, recovered for its founding use, it was recreated from an apothecary’s office to a space with scientific instruments of different types to arrive at the space dedicated to educational workshops and astronomy, where the mechanical planetarium offered stands out. his day for him Alphonse VIII Institute.

Finally, the exhibition reserved a space to recall the role of women in science. The inauguration also served as the official presentation of the new Experimentarium, which improves the conditions in which the educational workshops are offered, allows its transformation into an activity room and, above all, by freeing the old one, allows the new room to be fully opened, with more than 300 meters of exhibition capacity, in addition to the recovery for the public of the archaeological remains on which it is based.
