The executive committee of The CEOE unanimously rejected the proposal to legally reduce the working day promoted by the Ministry of Labor. The organization considers that this measure undermines the autonomy of collective bargaining, established in article 37.1 of the Constitution.
In one extraordinary meeting meeting on November 5, the CEOE discussed the impact of the measure, emphasizing that it would force SMEs and self-employed workers to reorganize their internal capacity, which could affect its viability. For the CEOE, this “imposition” compromises the collective bargaining framework that has supported social peace for four decades.
The employer warns that Cutting hours won’t increase productivity in an economic fabric dominated by SMEs and the self-employed. In key sectors such as services and tourism, which represent a significant share of GDP, this measure could prove counterproductive.
CEOE and Cepyme emphasize that the adoption of generalized measures does not make sense given the sectoral and regional diversity of the Spanish economy.
