A Chinese boss surnamed Pu, who encouraged company staff to put work before family, apologized to his subordinates. This was reported by the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post.
It is worth noting that a project manager in China sparked a wave of outrage online by urging employees to prioritize work over family, adding that “if someone dies at home, let them rot.” The boss’s instruction was posted in an online group chat.
Employees must be fully committed to their duties and any time off must be determined by project requirements and not personal needs, he said.
“My personal opinion is that if you participate in this project, the design work comes first. If someone dies at home, let them rot for a while. You should finish the project first and then take care of personal matters. Maybe this is just my personal opinion, but I wonder if everyone will agree!” – said the boss.
Amid the media controversy, the boss later apologized on social media, acknowledging that his comments to the task force were inappropriate and promising to do better.
“My recent comments in the task force were inappropriate and offensive to my colleagues. I regret it and I deeply regret it. “I sincerely apologize to all colleagues in the group,” he wrote, in part.
