Thus, they pointed out that these are usually telephone calls aimed at “deceiving people into receiving money” or presenting themselves as supposed priests in parishes and convents “ask to celebrate”.

To do this, fraudsters use public information that appears on web pages linked to the Diocese of Getafe, “offering details to convince the victim.” They also use new artificial intelligence tools.

From the diocese of Getafe they asked to be vigilant “avoid falling for this type of scam” and they recalled that when an unknown priest asks to celebrate Holy Mass, he is asked to “justify his quality as a priest (celebrate or letter of his ordinary)”.

Furthermore, as reported Europe Pressstressed that no amount of money will ever be requested urgently or by telephone and email, nor will passwords for banking services be ever requested. “neither by telephone nor by mail.”

Likewise, any call to this effect “must be considered a scam and must be brought to the attention of the technological innovation service for control and reporting to the competent authorities”. “In case of doubt, you must immediately consult the bishopric”they concluded.
