The Civil Guard, as part of the services it provides in the province against cybercrimedismantled a criminal organization made up of nine people, specializing in online scams for the purchase and sale of used vehicles.
The investigation began in February 2024 when Team@, in charge of the investigation into cybercrimebecame aware of the existence of two complaints filed in the province of Córdoba, finding links between the two during the investigation.
To contact the victims, they used telephone lines belonging to usurped peopleall with the aim of making the police’s investigative work difficult and leaving new victims in their criminal network.
To give the victim more confidence, they sent purchase and sale contracts falsified vehicles and identity documents of people who had already been defrauded.
After an exhaustive technological investigation, which analyzed: bank accounts, telephone lines and mobile devices, it was possible to reach the real people who committed these criminal acts.
In total, he attributes to them the alleged commission of five crimes of fraud, carrying out more than 25,000 euros. Thanks to the operation carried out, it was possible to investigate nine people of Spanish nationality, thus discovering a criminal network in which, in addition to the crimes of fraud initially investigated, the crimes of lie documentary and usurpation of civil status.
The @ team of the Civil Guard of Cordoba recommends avoiding this type of online scam, being wary of advantageous prices, not providing bank details or sending pictures identity documents to complete the procedures, as they could be used for future scams.
