THE Balearic Civil Guard headed to the Valencian Community to help in the areas most affected by DANA, which has already caused 217 deaths in the peninsula, the vast majority in the province of Valencia. Specifically, a van and four vehicles of the Citizen Security Unit (Usecic) left from the west dam of Palma to carry out the necessary humanitarian work.
And the Civil Guard announced, through a press release broadcast throughout the country, that it had increased the number of its troops deployed in the areas affected by the DANA which devastated the province of Valencia, until reaching 5,200 soldiers.
So, this Sunday reinforcements will come from practically all commands in Spain, including the Balearic Islands, with which they will be trained. ten units of around 50 civil guardswhich will be joined by more personnel from the Reserve and Security Groups, the Cavalry Group and the Rapid Action Group (GAR).
In addition, the workforce of the three Valencian provinces is increased, whose main task will be to contribute to mitigating the effects of DANA on citizens.
Currently, the Civil Guard has on the ground citizen security personnel, the traffic group, the Reserve and Security Group (GRS), the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), the Air Service, the Special Underwater Activities Group (GEAS), Judicial Police, Seprona, Drone Team, Disaster Identification Team, Cynological Service (dogs), Information Service or Prosecutor’s Office.
In terms of material resources, there are already some 560 all-terrain vehicles, four mobile offices of the citizen service, special vehicles of the forensic service, ten light boats, seven helicopters and 69 drones.
Location of missing persons and identification of bodies
After four days of the devastating effects of DANA, the efforts of the Civil Guard are focused on the locate missing people, identify bodies and strengthen efforts to supply the population and those of citizen security, with the objective of “contributing to achieving a normalization of the situation as quickly as possible”.
The units involved, in particular those of the Traffic Group, contribute to facilitating the supply of means of transport of basic products and essential elements to the population and assist in the work of removing vehicles and cleaning the roads.
To date, work has been carried out 36,115 rescues and assistance to people in town and on the road. Thanks to the system for preventing looting and acts of pillage, 35 arrests were made.
