The cleaning sector of premises and buildings in the province of Pontevedra has called a strike for the coming days. November 11 and 12 with the aim of denouncing the blockage in the negotiation of the agreement which has expired since December 2022 and demanding improvements in terms of work and wages.
This was announced by the heads of health service federations. CIG and UGT. The regional secretary of the CIG Servizos de Vigo, Alfredo Filgueiras, indicated that this agreement affects more than 12,000 people in the province, mostly women, and that after 16 AGM meetings and mediation, no agreement was reached with the employers.
According to the complaint, the companies did not apply the CPI update in 2023, so they submitted a collective conflict. In addition to the legal process of the trial, he clarified that workers must have a new agreement that includes other requirements such as extending a vacation day, an additional personal work day, or changes to the work day that allow overtime to be distributed among staff who do not have full-time hours.
For his part, the representative of the UGT, Jesús Fernández, regretted that The employers “leave no other way” than to take to the streets to claim their rights, due to their immobile position and stressed that it is a very feminized and very precarious sector, since the majority of workers have contracts of a few hours and earn between 300 and 400 euros per month .
Added to this is that, during these years, they have not been able to update their salaries in accordance with the CPI, and it is estimated that the loss of purchasing power has been 12%.
“During the pandemic, they asked us to be up to the task, and We were essential. Now they no longer recognize it when they negotiate; When things are bad, we are there, but when we demand our rights, they deny them to us,” he criticized, before recalling the “brutal volume of profits” of companies.
In addition to the strike days, the CIG and the UGT have called for November 11 and 12 two demonstrations. The first day will depart at 12:00 p.m. from the Vía Norte and Urzáiz intersection, and the second day it will depart from the same place, at 19:00 p.m.
