The coldest winter awaits Europe

According to the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, temperatures in Europe between now and March will be mostly lower than in the last two years. This will likely lead to the highest level of heating demand since the start of military operations in Ukraine.

Oku.Az“Bloomberg” reported on this.

According to meteorologists’ forecasts, although temperatures in Europe are expected to exceed the seasonal norm, as in the two previous winter seasons, the continent remains vulnerable to climate disasters. Cold weather will put additional pressure on gas and electricity prices. Even this month, already weak winds and cold weather have led to faster use of gas storage.

Andrew Pedrini, a meteorologist at Atmospheric G2, says any long-term cooling could be due to a sudden warming of the stratosphere. This event usually causes a weakening of the polar vortex, which holds masses of cold air at the Earth’s poles.

Matthew Dross, meteorologist at the company “Maxar”, predicts that moderate weather conditions will prevail in northern and central Europe, while low temperatures will be observed in Italy and the Balkans.

According to “Weather Services International”, in December the temperature is expected to drop considerably. This will cause heating demand in Europe to exceed the seasonal norm. In particular, the average temperature in Oslo on December 8 is forecast to be -12°C, 9°C below the 30-year average.
