The National Assembly of Commons approved its political and organizational presentation with 80% of the votes in favor. Concretely, the text received 389 votes for, 60 against and 33 abstentions. He also approved the management report of the executive, composed of Ada Colau, Candela López and Jéssica Albiach, but he did so narrowly, with only 46.25% of the votes in favor. 36.19% opposed and 17.56% abstained.
The party thus begins its new post-Colau stage, with the objective of “growing” as a political space and with the mandate to improve results after an electoral cycle which “was not positive”, as mentions the presentation approved this Sunday. .
The text sets out the mission of the commons to lead the construction of a social and political majority allowing them to address a “very broad social space”, while defining themselves as a “force of struggle and government”. According to the party, Catalonia is in a “transition phase” after the process, which may give it options to develop electorally.
In the document, the Comuns consider that a new political scenario is opening up, in which Catalan society “rediscovers itself in a new Catalanism”. In this sense, they warn that Catalonia has two possible paths: either a majority oriented “towards the elites and economic powers”, or another which is “the construction of a popular majority”.
The text supports a “new pact with the State to achieve strong autonomy based on single funding and recognition of the plurinational and plurilingual character of the State”. Indeed, he assures that “Catalonia needs its own financing as a central axis of renewed autonomy”, while emphasizing that the change in the financing system must also be “an opportunity for all the territories of the common regime” to see themselves “satisfied” with their “legitimate aspirations for equitable financing”.
The new executive
The supreme executive body is in the hands of Candela López, former mayor of Castelldefels, deputy and vice-president of the Provincial Council of Barcelona, and Gemma Tarafa, councilor and spokesperson for Barcelona. López is the only one to repeat the triumvirate of the previous stage, in which she shared the position with Colau and Albiach. During this weekend’s assembly, López announced that he would leave his seat in Parliament to avoid the “accumulation” of positions.
Albiach takes over a newly created position and becomes, with Ernest Urtasun, Minister of Culture and spokesperson for Sumar, the institutional leader of the party. She in Catalonia and he in government. While López and Tarafa will focus more on the organic questions of training, they will be responsible for explaining the strategy.
On the other hand, the deputies Aina Vidal and Gerardo Pisarello will be in charge of spokespersons, a position they will share and in which they will replace the deputy Joan Mena.
An aspect to which the Comuns gave a lot of importance during this weekend’s Assembly is the need for the party to strengthen itself in the municipalities and to be present beyond Barcelona. The commitment to municipalism will define the new stage of the Comuns after the departure of Colau and the loss of the Catalan capital.
Lídia Muñoz and Tània Corrons will take care of it. The first was mayor of Sant Feliu de Llobregat and the second was in charge of the organization and finances of the training.
