The Minister of Tourism and Foreign Affairs of Andalusia of the Junta de Andalucía, Arturo Bernalexplained this Friday that it is expected that at the end of this year 2024 some 35 million tourists visited the region, which means, he said, that “the number of tourists will also be the best year in the historic series.”
He recalled last year’s figure, according to which “at the end there were 34.2 million tourists”, so “we are growing, we are doing it moderately” and he insisted that ” our best data and our best results are in terms of revenue, new markets.” that we are able to bring to the territory, in terms of new products tourists with greater spending capacity, better income, better employment and a greater number of employment contracts with a shorter period of time.
This was stated by Bernal, during a press conference in Malaga to present the tourist data corresponding to the first three quarters of the year in Andalusia, where he declared that from January to September visited the region 28.9 million tourists.
On the other hand, in terms of tourism workers and income forecasts for the end of the year, he recalled that “we have ranges” and “we envisaged that between 450,000 and 480,000 would be the contracts that we would be active on average. during the year 2024.” in reference to “contracts in the tourism sector, tourism workers”.
“In the case of income, we also had a range, with three scenarios in this case. A more pessimistic scenario, let’s say neutral and more optimistic, which was at 26,000, 28,000 and 30,000 million euros“, he explained, while specifying that “for the moment I will stick to the moderate scenario, to the average, because we are more or less in these terms”.
Thus, he highlighted that “we experienced growth in the first three quarters of the year of 2.2 billion more than the previous year”, the previous year being around 26 billion. “The last quarter of the year is a quarter where we will further increase the number of tourists, where the average expenditure is also higher than in high season,” he detailed.
Thus, he concluded, “we can be around 29.5 billion euros by the end of this year”, stressing that “this is an extrapolation which is made three months before the end of the ‘year”.
