The Council proposes the Proyecto Hombre to serve women addicts who also suffer from gender violence

The Government of Castile-La Mancha will study terms of collaboration with Proyecto Hombre with the aim of “expanding and improving” the care of women victims of gender violence with dependency problems.

This was announced by the Minister of Equality, Sara Simón, who participated this Saturday in the annual open day that Proyecto Hombre celebrates in the therapeutic community of Guadalajara with people who have managed to “restart their lives” in the last year.

The advisor highlighted the “effort and courage” of the people treated at Proyecto Hombre, while thanking the center’s staff for “having created a real family in which everyone helps each other to resume their lives, giving a real example to society as a whole.” .

During a few words addressed to all the people who make up the community and their families, Simón highlighted the importance of specific programs for women with girls and boysannouncing that the ministry will “reach out” to be able to assist victims of gender-based violence.

“We want to work hand in hand to be able to support women who, in addition to suffering from gender-based violence, have addictions, in many cases due to the vicious circle they face with the violence itself” , he assured.

Currently, the Government of Castile-La Mancha has the Center for Care and Assessment of Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI) in Cuenca as a specific resource to help women addicts who suffer from gender violence.

Finally, Simón had words of gratitude towards Modesto Salgado, promoter of Proyecto Hombre Castilla-La Mancha, who, after more than thirty years at the head of the NGO, is reaching retirement age. Likewise, the advisor wished “a lot of luck and success” to the new director, Elena Carrizo, “with whom we are starting to work.”
