The Court admits the expulsion process against the former nuns of Belorado

The story of the ex-nuns of Belorado does not seem to end and this Friday, November 8, a new episode is added to the schism of the monastery of Santa Clara de Belorado.

On September 16, Burgos Archbishop Mario Iceta’s threats came true when he filed a lawsuit against the nine former nuns, demanding they leave the monastery.

And almost two months later, there is already an answer. The Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Briviesca issued an Order admission of the eviction request in precarious conditions against ex-nuns and those who remain in the monastery “without legal title or authorization”.

This was reported by the Archdiocese of Burgos in a statement in which, it added, this decree “does not affect” the five senior nuns who “properly constitute the monastic community of Belorado and legally reside in the monastery.

The decree grants a period of ten days to respond to the complaint. There is also the possibility of celebrating a hearing on December 19 of 2024 and January 23, 2025 is set for commencement practice, “in case the defendant does not appear legally.”

On the other hand, the Civil Guard has the task of “identifying” the people who occupy the property, “in addition to the ex-nuns themselves”.

“The decree continues to affirm that the defendant’s opposition may be based exclusively on the existence of sufficient title of the plaintiff to possess the dwelling or on the absence of title on the part of the plaintiff,” they argue.

Finally, the Federation of Poor Clares of Our Lady of Aránzazu has planned the “immediate attention” to older sisters in the same monastery of Belorado, “by moving the sisters from other monasteries, provided that the former nuns do not prevent their access”.
