The great unknown, what will happen to the enormous area that the courts of the Plaza de Castilla now occupy when its courts and officials move to the City of Justice, will be revealed this morning by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during her State of the Region address. The Madrid president tells ABC that she wants to create the Administrative and Citizen Services District of Madrid there, a resource that will centralize the bureaucratic procedures that the people of Madrid must complete and that will allow the city to save around 80 million euros in rent.
Once the City of Justice is opened, the 48,600 square meters occupied by the courts of the Plaza de Castilla will be empty and unused. A space in a privileged place that the regional government wants to take advantage of by transforming it into an Administrative District, where the people of Madrid come to personally carry out the procedures they need.
One of the advantages of this location will undoubtedly be its location: it is connected to the main public transport lines at the Plaza de Castilla interchange and the metro.
In addition, Díaz Ayuso also announced his intention to move the Civil Registry from Pradillo Street to the judicial headquarters on Poeta Joan Maragall Street, behind the courts of the Plaza de Castilla. In this way, this headquarters, which will also be emptied with the march to the City of Justice, will have a new use, and will be able to have spaces equipped for the celebration of civil marriages, as well as for other events such as the taking of oaths. -in ceremonies and nationalities.
In addition to these two large spaces, the Administrative and Citizen Services District will be completed by the Central Offices and External Projects of the Metro, on Avenida Asturias; the Housing Office, on the same street, and the Canal Foundation, on Mateo Inurria Street.
When the judicial officers are transferred to the City, which is currently being built in the Valdebebas district, the courts will be rehabilitated to adapt them to their new use. Over the last eight years, 6.5 million euros have been invested in them.
