Czech gas storage facilities are more than 93 percent full, which is higher than the average reserves of previous years, Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Josef Sikela announced today, September 9.
“Our responsible approach to gas consumption contributes significantly to above-average gas reserves. Compared to 2023, when gas consumption was at a record low, we used more than 300 million cubic metres less.” – said.
According to him, consumption of blue fuel in the Czech Republic last year decreased by more than a tenth compared to the same period last year and amounted to 6.76 billion cubic meters – the lowest figure since 1992. This year, almost 60% of this type of energy raw material came to the Czech Republic via Germany and more than 40% via Slovakia.
“Unfortunately, gas storage charges in Germany have significantly contributed to the reduction in transport through its territory compared to last year. But thanks to the fact that we have managed to agree on their abolition from next year, gas transport via this route will become more profitable.” – the minister noted.
He also said that “as the contract to transport Russian gas through Ukraine draws closer, the equally good news is that gas storage facilities in the rest of Europe are also above average.”
It should be recalled that the Czech authorities declare their desire to completely eliminate dependence on Russian gas. However, in practice this cannot be done. At the moment, it is not clear where the Czechs will get a significant share of gas if kyiv refuses to extend the agreement with Russia on the transportation of “blue fuel” through its territory.
