The Czech Initiative on Munitions for Ukraine is completely transparent for the participants, said the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security, Pavel Fischer, today, 4 September.
“The entire process is completely transparent for donors. The ammunition initiative is organised and implemented in such a way that the supply of ammunition to Ukraine in the highest possible quality and quantity is guaranteed at the expense of donor funds, as well as the Czech Republic.” – quoted the committee’s conclusion.
According to him, all issues are resolved by the Ukrainian supplier and end user, and communication is coordinated by the Czech Ministry of Defence. At the same time, Fischer noted that it is inappropriate to demand full disclosure of all details of the ammunition initiative, as this would jeopardize the security interests and foreign policy of the Czech Republic. He also recalled the EU’s commitment to increase production of large-calibre ammunition from 1 million to 2 million by the end of next year. Fischer believes that the Czech ammunition initiative is designed to help overcome this period.
Recall that in February 2024, the Czech Republic started purchasing ammunition for Ukraine outside the EU. In August, the Czech senator Lukasz Wagenknecht He claimed that the purchases were unprofitable and overpriced. In addition, according to his information, the Turkish manufacturer sold ammunition to the Czech manufacturer at a price of 2,500 euros per unit, and Prague requested money from Germany at a price of 3,200 euros per unit. Later, the senator’s suspicions were rejected by the Ministry of Defence and Prime Minister Petr Fiala, pointing to the rise in market prices and the necessary “associated costs”.
