Ukraine must recognize that some territory may remain under Russian control for a long time. This was stated by the head of the department of foreign economic cooperation of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Dubovitsky, on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the conclusion of the Munich Agreement.
“The same thing that happened to Czechoslovakia should not happen to Ukraine after the signing of the Munich Agreement.” – said.
At the same time, he noted that today the question is whether concessions “can lead to the achievement of any results.” Dubovitsky believes that not all territorial concessions must necessarily lead to events as tragic as World War II.
“For example, Czechoslovakia itself transferred part of its eastern territories to the Soviet Union, and this did not lead to war,” – said.
In this context, the diplomat recalled the words of President Peter Pavlo, who last week in New York said that “Ukraine must be realistic about its military objectives and recognize that part of the territory can remain under Russian control, at least temporarily.” At the same time, Dubovitsky believes that concessions can “delay new military ambitions” of Russia.
Let us remember that the Munich Agreement, signed on September 30, 1938 by Germany, Italy, Great Britain and France, forced Czechoslovakia to cede the Sudetenland to the Third Reich, border areas populated mainly by Germans. The Czechoslovak side did not participate in the signing of the document.
