The study published by Lancet magazine has shown today on Tuesday that the decision of the US President Donald Trump Presidential Administration can stop financing international assistance to more than 14 million people from the most vulnerable groups around the world, a third of which are children.
According to the French press agency David Rasilla, co -author of the study and researcher at the Barcelona International Institute of Health, said that the decision of the Trump administration “threatens an obstacle, or even the opposite of the path, two decades of progress in the field of the most vulnerable groups. For many countries with low and medium income, as a result, they are shocked in the major or medium water conflict.
The publication of this study in a prestigious medical journal coincides with the development financing conference, which unites world leaders in Spain and the United States, is absent in it.
This conference will take place in a very gloomy context of development assistance, which was badly damaged by huge discounts in Trump from the moment he returned to the White House in January.
According to the study, the US Agency financing program for international development (US ID) in 133 countries contributed to the prevention of 91 million people in low and medium income countries from 2001 to 2021.
Based on these data, the researchers came to the conclusion that the reduction of American funding by 83 percent – the number declared by Washington at the beginning of the year – can lead to more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030, including more than 4.5 million children under the age of five or about 700 thousand additional deaths among children annually.
The reason for this is that the programs supported by the American agency for international development contributed to a decrease in death by 15 %caused by all causes, while this percentage increases to twice (32 percent) with a decrease in the death of children under the age of five.
