The DGT gives you your driving license: check if you are on the list

The General Directorate of Traffic wanted to launch an action to help the group of people who, over the years, continue to renew the driving license. People over 70 will be able to afford renewal at no cost, so all drivers belonging to this group are in luck.

Who can renew their driving license for free?

Let’s not forget that for many people, a driving license is not only an official document, it is also synonymous with freedom and independence. The fact is that renewals from time to time require a greater expense, which will have two parts, one intended for the DGT and the other for the examination of the psychotechnician.

Currently, the prices for renewing the license have a cost of 24.58 euros. Of course, these fees will be waived for those over 70, where they can face renewal without having to pay the cost of administrative fees to the student.

An important step

We are facing an important milestone, especially in our country, where there are around 5.2 million drivers over the age of 65. The DGT wants to strengthen a part of the population which will value the ability to drive safely.

What is the renewal procedure?

When it comes to renewing it, in our country we can request it in two ways: by presence or by telematics.

Drivers can go to Provincial Traffic Headquarters and recognition centers. When they wish to carry out their transactions at home, they will be able to use the electronic register available on the DGT website, provided they have the electronic DNI, password or electronic certificate.

To be renewed in person

The steps for this renewal in person are simple: go to a Recognition Center, take a photo on site, pay the medical examination and the corresponding price. The DGT will issue you with a provisional authorization with which you can travel until the authorization is definitively obtained.

What documents are required for renewal?

Whatever the type, to renew it it is necessary to present some documents that we will tell you:

  • Official renewal request form duly completed
  • A psychophysical aptitude report which will be issued by the CRC
  • Proof of having paid the fees
  • Valid ID
  • Recent color photograph 32*26 mm

From the age of 70, the only expense drivers must pay take the medical reportwhere the only requirement is to ensure they are in good condition to be able to drive.

Correct measurement

The DGT will make it easier for older drivers to keep their licenses without committing money, so as to eliminate renewal fees.

The main objective is to offer guarantees to maintain great autonomy and access to all necessary procedures being able to drive for such a large group.

Through this action, the DGT will not only eliminate economic barriers, but also demonstrate its commitment to the safety and comfort of older people who drive.

Drivers are getting older and older

It is clear that in our country life expectancy is getting longer and we are also moving towards older ages. We are faced with something logical, because by living longer and being able to do more things, we also want to continue, as much as possible, to lead a normal life.

At the DGT, they wanted to take good note of it and we think that it is a good detail with this age groupyou will therefore spend less money on said renovation.

In addition to this, it should also be mentioned that the tests for older people will be a little more demanding, so both drivers the security of being able to count on psychophysical capacities use vehicles so that the rest of the population also has the confidence that anyone driving on the streets and highways is because they can do it.

Remember that in Spain there is no age limit for driving, so anyone who meets the conditions will be able to continue renewing their license. So now you know, we hope we have clarified the problem for you.
