The director of “Elvis” and “The Great Gatsby” will make a biopic about Joan of Arc

Australian director, screenwriter and producer Baz Luhrmann (Marc Anthony Luhrmann), who celebrated his 61st birthday on September 17, will direct a biopic about Joan of Arc, Deadline reported.

“This is the epic story of Joan of Arc, a young French peasant girl who believed that God had sent her to lead an army. She believed that she would save her country during the Hundred Years’ War.” – says the publication.

Casting is currently underway; the lead role has not yet been chosen.

Luhrmann, whose 2022 Warner Bros. film “Elvis” was nominated for eight Oscars and grossed $288 million worldwide, is currently in the midst of the creative process and declined to reveal any details about the upcoming film.

Since 1899, when the first silent film about the Maid of Orleans was released, the number of film adaptations of Joan of Arc’s life story has exceeded 70 films.

The most famous images of warriors in cinema were embodied by Inna Churikova, Ingrid Bergman, Gene Seberg, Jane Birkin, Sandrine Bonner, Milla Jovovich and many others.
