The general director of the Valencian public radio and television in Punt, Alfred Costa, leaves the entity ten days after the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, announced that he was offering his position to another journalist. The communicator reported his “irrevocable resignation” from his position “for personal reasons”.

The manager sent a press release in which he underlined “the titanic effort and personal sacrifice of many of the staff and management teams during the extraordinary coverage of DANA on October 29.” “The coverage provided allowed us to reconnect like never before with a large number of citizens. Never have our values of transparency, independence and proximity resonated so much in the homes of hundreds of thousands of Valencians who trusted À Punt to obtain information,” he explains.

Costa communicates his decision ten days after the presidency confirmed that Carlos Mazón had lunch on the day of DANA with the journalist Maribel Vilaplana to ask her to be the director of the entity. The president probed the journalist to apply for Costa’s position in the public company that will replace the current one in Punt, a position that must be proposed by the Board of Directors, which has not yet been created or voted on in Corts Valencianes. Sources from Vilaplana explained to elDiario.es that the president of the Generalitat offered him the leadership of À Punt and that the journalist rejected the offer.

Mazón’s office described the meeting as a “private working lunch” with the journalist, “a professional of recognized prestige and with extensive experience in the audiovisual and communications sector.” He interviewed this person to discuss the possibility of directing and joining the new regional television project, In Punt. The meeting, they say, began at 3 p.m., in a location a few minutes from the Palau de la Generalitat, at the El Ventorro restaurant. “For reasons of privacy and confidentiality, because this person currently works in an audiovisual and communications company, and in order not to compromise his employment and professional situation, he was not previously informed of the conditions described above”, they indicate from Palau.
