He Carcastillo City Council signs an agreement with the Zona Media Development Consortium to carry out actions in the natural area. The signing took place this Tuesday, October 29 at the Dos Reinos Lagoon Observatory in the presence of the president of the Consortium, Mª Rosario Domingos Garcíaand the mayor of Carcastillo, Olaïa Fraile.
Laguna Dos Reinos is one of three wetlands in the Middle Zone of Navarre. This is a valuable space for birds, which need resting places during their long migratory journey, which is why shelters like this are important stages in their life cycle.
This highly diverse natural space serves as a habitat for resident fauna and a route hotel for migratory birds. As part of Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (DTSP) of the Middle Zone, the objective is to carry out an action which improves the visit to the space.
The project carries out the conditioning of a vehicle deterrent spacesomething that aims to make visits compatible with the conservation of space. In other words, it is committed not to attracting more visitors, but to promoting better, more sustainable and responsible tourism. In addition, Access barriers will be placed in the space both to protect areas used by wildlife, which tends to retreat with human presence, and to prevent visitors from accessing the most sensitive part of the flora.
The mayor of Carcastillo, Olaia Fraile Garciaputs the signing of the agreement in context: “This is an important step to make our project a reality, we will be able to set up a dissuasive space so that vehicles do not affect their environment and can thus benefit from it. responsibly. To carry out the action, It has a budget of €100,000 and, under the PSTD, 100% of the investment is financed.
David Miqueleiz Cortés, expert and member of the Association of Friends of Laguna Dos Reinosexplains the importance of this action which allows “to avoid erosion and degradation of roads, to prevent forest fires and to avoid noise pollution from vehicles which disturb the fauna of the Lagoon”.
