The Civil Guard arrested a man from Moaña, in Pontevedra, for the death of his wife after their car plunged into the sea. Officers are investigating the event as a possible case of gender violence, according to Europa Press.
His partner was in the passenger seat, he received at least one blow in the mouth and a few hours after learning of the event, the government subdelegate in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, confirmed that several witnesses had seen the driver accelerated “significantly” before plunging into the sea. The body of the 41-year-old woman was found in the sea when the vehicle was taken out of the water.
The detainee was at the Povisa Hospital in Vigo, where he was transferred with symptoms of hypothermia and loss of consciousness after being rescued.
Regarding the man who drove the vehicle, Losada reported that he appears in the database of the VioGén system for monitoring cases of gender violence “due to violent events” that occurred in 2012.
According to the information provided, he is 47 years old and lives in Moaña, the same town where the events occurred in the early hours of this Saturday. He went to prison, Losada revealed, when he was convicted by the Pontevedra provincial court for events that occurred 12 years ago. He also had a restraining order, valid until 2020, against the woman victim of the events that occurred in 2012.
At the moment, authorities are still collecting data to find out all the details of the event.
