From October 9 to 13, The Apartment is present in the edition of Frieze Londonpresenting a unique show from the artist duo Fuentesal Arenillas, composed of Julia Fuentesal and Pablo A. Arenillas.
Frieze’s Focus section features the work of 37 emerging artistswho share the desire to explore and take both the concepts on which current artistic practice is based and the materials towards new limits, so that the visitor discovers the talent and risk in the approaches of a new generation of creators. In this context, the Fuentesal Arenillas duo reveals their sensitivity towards the ductility and mutation of materials, the deconstruction of the creative process as a story or even their taste for popular and primitive artisanal traditions in the face of a defiant modernity.
The work of Fuentesal Arenillas He explores the fields of semiotics and anthropology to structure a type of work of art which is at the same time game, totem, archive and event. They rely on the Dadaist tradition and concrete art to define an imagination in which the everyday, the banal, the accidental, the superfluous acquire an almost monumental dimension. They generated a universe of artistic objects deeply marked by physical and mental duality. As a result, repetition is very important for them: a conversation with two voices, a double reading, double movements, a superposition of gestures, an accumulation of signs; It’s the best way to explore an object that doesn’t exist, but happens.
They were selected for the scholarship of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome 2022-2023, their work was a winner of the call. Generations 2023 at La Casa Encendida Madridparticipated in the artistic residency of the María José Jove Foundation 2022, and were selected for the VI Cervezas Alhambra Prize for Emerging Art ARCO (2022), also awarded by the Iniciarte Space Program of Seville (2015) and the Blueproject Foundation (2018), with a residency which concluded with the GameShow/PlayShow exhibition.
They also participated in different exhibitions such as Replica Turn. Construction/Composition in the Patio Herreriano Museum, Sight and Touch (c. 1929-30) at the Federico García Lorca Center or A Crack in the Mountain at the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art. Recently they have held important individual exhibitions such as Brilliant Cover, Thin Margin, curated by Juan Canela and carried out with the support of the Artistic Production Program of the Community of Madrid – DKV at the Sala de Arte Joven, A swinging act at the NORDÉS gallery, Santiago. of Compostela, Galicia, or its recent exhibition La Danza Mudanza organized by Bea Espejo at the CAAC in Seville.
The Apartment, Founded in Havana in 2015, it is the most internationally prestigious Cuban contemporary art gallery. Its continued presence in high-level trade shows such as The Armory Show, Unititled, ARCOmadrid, Maco Zone, Art Brusselsand Liste has enabled important private collections and cultural institutions around the world to catch up with the work of contemporary Cuban artists. He participated in the Condo Gallery-share event and is part of the IGA (International Galleries Alliance).
In June 2023, it opened its doors to the public in the heart of Madrid’s gallery circuit, at number 4 Calle de la Puebla. Although El Apartamento has enjoyed a notable presence in the city since 2017 thanks to its participation in ARCOmadrid, with the launch of this new headquarters progress consolidates its proposal and expresses its intention to collaborate with institutions and artists in the region.
