The Emerging Spanish Cinema Festival (Fecicam) celebrates its 15th anniversary with the best of alternative and auteur cinema

Ciudad Real began the fall with the celebration of one of the most important cultural events on the local agenda. This is the Festival of Emerging Spanish Cinema (Fecicam) which will screen at the Quijano Theater, from this Friday until October 4, 37 productions which will compete in this 15th edition.

The selected works include feature films, documentaries and short films, divided into 9 categories in total.

The co-director of Fecicam, Marina González, told ABC that during these fifteen years the festival continued to take place, despite the pandemic, without interruption. González recalled that this event was born from the need to offer a platform to young creators from Castile-La Mancha “who were starting out in the cinematographic sector.”

Marina González highlighted that Fecicam has “been the best showcase” for showing young talents, becoming a reference for creators who “did not have a festival in which they could show their projects.”

The results – underlined the co-director of Fecicam – have allowed many filmmakers to win awards in the different festivals organized in Spain, including Goyas. Remember that this festival began its journey dedicated to showing the talent of filmmakers from the autonomous community.

Regarding the novelties of this edition – it should be emphasized – that for the first time entry to all screenings and activities will be completely free, an initiative that aims to encourage public participation and make the festival accessible to all film lovers , reaffirming Fecicam’s commitment to cultural dissemination and support for independent cinema.

In this edition, the competition selection includes four feature films, three series, three other works in the European and Latin American section, six short fiction films, four documentaries, three in the Babycam section and four in the Parallel and Paracomic section , among others.

“This year we have great allies such as the Association of Audiovisual Editors and Publishers of Spain ‘Amae’, the Platform of New Directors of Madrid ‘PNR’ and the Andalusian Cinema Academy who bring together, with great premieres like ‘The Flag’, a film with Imanol Arias, which was screened at the last Malaga Film Festival but which has not yet been released in theaters”, says Marina González.

We can also see “On the go”, a transgressive road movie by Julia Castro and María Gisèle Roya, performed by Omar Ayuso which triumphed at the Locarno Festival, but which did not find a national distributor, as well as “Terre de our mothers’.

The next meetings, also at the Quijano Museum at 8 p.m., will be this Saturday with the National and International Short Section and tomorrow with the Series and the Fecicam Off, dedicated to the works of cinema schools and workshops which present works of “high quality, very interesting and daring and which combine various disciplines”, underlines the co-director.

The little ones (children between five and thirteen years old) also have room in the festival with the Babycam section which will be held on Tuesday October 1 at 6 p.m. at the Public Library of the State of Ciudad Real to give way, to 6 hours. : 30h, the best documentaries from Castilla-La Mancha.

The final touch of the 15th edition of Fecicam will take place on Friday October 4 at 8:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony at Quijano and with the tribute ‘Back to Amy’ dedicated to the British singer Amy Winehouse.

Finally, it is necessary to highlight the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo; and the mayor of Ciudad Real, Francisco Cañizares, at the opening of the festival, which included representatives of different institutions that have supported Fecicam during these 15 years.

This competition benefits from the support of the Community Council of Castile-La Mancha, the Provincial Deputation and the City Hall of Ciudad Real, among others.
