Family and friends joined BRI X members already heading to the new mission in the Middle East after leaving Córdoba at midnight.
Tears, smiles, nervesemotion, hugs… All the ingredients of a moment as important as the farewells of part of the contingent of soldiers from Brigade ‘Guzmán el Bueno’ on the way to a new international mission in Lebanon, become a real powder keg with Israeli attacks on Hezbollah positions but also on towns.
Córdoba’s bus and train station gathered dozens of soldiers and members of their families after midnight for the final goodbye of a journey that will last six months in the Spanish base ‘Miguel Cervantes’ to take over from the Aragon Brigade in the south-east of the country. Cold night in Cordoba that did not manage to alleviate the warmth of family and friends during the last goodbye of some soldiers who once again wear the blue beret of The United Nations.
Around 280 soldiers, who were preparing these months at the Cerro Muriano base for this mission, left in different buses towards Torrejón de Ardoz, from where the military plane that will take them to Lebanon leaves. There they meet other troops from Seville and the Madrid community itself to form the contingent under the command of the General Fernando Ruiz Gómez -at the head of Guzmán el Bueno since the beginning of 2024-.
Most of these soldiers come from the units of the BRI X, the Armored Regiment ‘Córdoba’ 10, Infantry Regiment ‘La Reina’ 2, Infantry Regiment ‘Garellano’ 45, GACA X (Self-Propelled Field Artillery Group), Logistics Group
