The European Commission demanded a change in Tbilisi’s political course and refused to give a recommendation to start negotiations with Georgia on EU accession.
Oku.Az reports, this is stated in the European Commission’s annual report on the progress of the candidate countries on the path to the EU, published in Brussels.
“If Georgia does not change its course, the European Commission will not be able to consider the recommendation to start negotiations,” the document states.
The recommendation of the European Commission is the main step to start negotiations on the accession of the candidate country.
Brussels stated that, despite receiving candidate status, Georgian authorities have not demonstrated “substantial political will” to implement the reforms necessary for the “European path.”
