Donald Trump acts with blows against his commercial partners with threats, suspension and, above all, with a package of tariffs that are already acting, while the EU seeks to bend the head as a formula to try to reach an agreement. Nevertheless, within the framework of the community, certain discrepancies are blocking on how to encounter a commercial war after the National Call of the President of the United States, which currently threatens 30% with total EU import tariffs. Such countries as France are setting a signal of power, while Germany and Italy want agreements at all costs.
At the moment, the European Commission is striving to maintain the situation as it is, that is, not to take any measure. The EU had a chance on Tuesday, when the suspension of tariffs expires 21,000 million euros, which 27 agreed to 25% of aluminum tax and an agreement, which was the first sector attacked by Trump. When the US President decided to give a partial truce (leaving -without the use of a part of mutual tariffs –10% -the majority and aluminum, 25% to vehicles and 10% total) entered into force, the EU decided to suspend what prepared as a blow to the steel sector. The intention was to release the message of conscientiousness in the face of negotiations.
The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Lein advocated to maintain these tariffs for the expectation, at least until August 1, when this Saturday expires a new deadline to try to an agreement, which avoids 30% of the tariff, which Trump notified it according to the letter. “We will extend the suspension of our countermers until the beginning of August,” von der Lane said this Sunday. The priority of the European Commission, such as Germany or Italy, is to achieve a “agreed solution”.
Nevertheless, he also assured that the EU would continue to profile countermeasures for implementation if the agreement is definitely dynamic. “At the same time, we will continue to prepare new countermeasures to be completely prepared,” said von der Lane. At the moment, a list of products has been prepared that may be subject to tariffs from the EU in the amount of 95,000 million euros.
